I am SO excited to get started on this!  Amanda (of ohAmanda!) has written a wonderful Advent book for families intended to fill your child's heart with the real meaning of Christmas!

Truth in the Tinsel is a downloadable PDF book that you can easily read and take with you on your tablet, Kindle, Smartphone, or computer.  This book is filled with 24 days of scripture readings, devotional prompts, and craft activities complete with templates, easy to follow instructions, and daily supply lists so you are always prepared for the next day's activity!  And I bet you already have most of the supplies tucked away in your craft closets!

Truth in the Tinsel is just $7.99 (by far the best money you'll spend on an Advent book or calendar that you can will DEFINITELY want to reuse year after year - can't do that with chocolate calendars! LOL) and you get immediate access to the book so you can start right away!  I just bought the book tonight and browsed the first day's supply list and I have everything we need to get started tomorrow night!  Easy peasy!

If you're not feeling up to the craftiness of it all, you can get printable Truth in the Tinsel ornaments and use these on days you’re too busy to do a big craft, for toddlers, or while you’re traveling, or if you just want to save a little money on supplies!

And, I especially LOVE that Amanda has a Facebook page that is constantly updated and filled with encouragements and supplemental activities so you can expand on the day's lesson or differentiate by age or interest!  (LOVING this LEGO supplement with build ideas for Advent pieces that tie-in with Truth in the Tinsel!)

Included in the the Truth in the Tinsel ebook are printable "clues". These can be placed inside an Advent calendar and then used to help your kids get excited about that day's theme!

We got off to a late start as we are all still fighting this horrible 10-hour time difference! But (!) I have to say the daily activities are so very easy to follow that I am not worried about doing 2 back to back!  I improvised in the ornament activity as I did not have one of the supplies readily on hand and I knew I had a ton of other craft supplies to use.  The Boy had a blast making his ornament and talking about the Scripture reading!

Where in the world has December gone?!  YIKES!  We have been plagued by a cold virus that we just have not been able to shake for well over a month now, along with work schedules, home schooling, and trying to fit all the other "Christmas memory" activities in! But I am determined to get through Truth in the Tinsel even if we are doing it until the Epiphany!  LOL

So, if you’re like me and totally behind on your Truth in the Tinsel ornaments or want to start right now, here’s some tips:

  • Just grab the book (it's available as soon as you purchase it!) and flip through it.
  • You can get the printable Truth in the Tinsel ornaments (on sale for 20% off with code ICANDOTHIS through 12/16/14) and use these on days you’re too busy to do a big craft, for toddlers, or while you’re traveling, or if you just want to save a little money on supplies!
  • Check out the alternate schedules on page 33 of your ebook. There are 4 different schedules to choose from–one for the basic characters, one of each book of the Bible, one for the prophecies, and one for the basics. Don’t even LOOK at the other ornaments and days you’re skipping over. Just do the alternate schedule and enjoy!
  • Look through the book and pick 5-6 ornaments you have the supplies for, like the message, or just think are cute. Do those days and NOTHING ELSE!
  • Combine your crafts or use an activity you are already doing!  We made Christmas cookies and turned the cookie decorating into a day's message!
  • ENJOY. Just enjoy the time to sit with your children and lead them to Jesus!
