Craft Stick Christmas Trees!

It's a gloomy day here today!  Too cold to play outside and too much energy to stay occupied for long inside!  So, we pulled out the Gluing Busy Box and got to crafting!

We started with a simple Christmas tree shape made from craft sticks.  Use 1 stick for the trunk and then 3 sticks cut to desired lengths for the branches.  I just used my gardening shears to cut the lengths and then sanded the edges a bit with sand paper.  Glue the branches to the trunk with either white craft glue or a hot glue gun.  The hot glue is much faster if you've got impatient crafters waiting!

Working with a glue bottle focuses on hand-eye coordination making sure the glue stays on the sticks and not on the table!

I keep a variety of things in the Busy Box that can be glued:  colored beads, pom poms, cut up pieces of holiday ribbons, buttons, tissue paper, and colored macaroni in various shapes.

We tried this craft last year and he was just not into it.  So, it was really fun to watch him choose the types of things to glue and place them ever so carefully exactly where he wanted them to go!   Picking up these tiny objects and placing them down precisely is great practice for fine motor skills as well!

An artist's eye!  Making sure everything looks right!

Success!  After the glue has completely dried, you can attach a magnet to the back and stick it on the fridge or a ribbon to the top to hang it on the Christmas tree!  Don't forget to write your child's name and age on the back too!
