We're Going Home!

One of the best things about independent homeschooling I have really come to appreciate this year is the flexibility it allows me as a "mommy" and a "teacher" in scheduling life around the lessons and the freedom it affords us to be a family.  I was more than a little apprehensive when we decided to enroll my 4 year old in part-time pre-k as I thought that would tie up our schedule, but I very quickly came to love the fact that "school" was only 2 short mornings a week and not 5 long days in a public school that would obligate and report attendance!  With our boy not "old enough" to attend kindergarten, we have the absolute joy of having him home and watching him just be a kid for another whole year (should we decide on a public school education for kindergarten next year).  We are not limited to the crowded and hectic weekends for scheduling extracurricular classes, for taking fun educational trips around the city, or to travel on a whim!

And we have the great fortune this year to do just that!  Now that fire season in California has passed, and my husband's schedule is (a little more) clear, we have decided to go back home again!  In just a few short weeks, we will be packing up and heading to Europe for a month or so and will just be enjoying the time spent traveling through Hungary and Transylvania (hopefully doing a little more sight-seeing this time around!), soaking up loved ones, visiting with dear friends (and meeting the precious new little ones in our "playgroup"!), savoring the out-of-this-world homemade food (oh I can already smell my favorite paprikás csirke cooking on the stove and the warm Kürtös Kalács baking at the roadside stands!  YUM!), and getting started on building our home!

I do plan on packing up as much of our 'classroom' that I can squeeze in to our limited luggage space and will be blogging our lessons and activities while we're over there.  I just can't wait to share our experiences on this year's adventure with you all!

Here's a peek at our travels from last year's trip home!

The best part of going home (besides the 24 hours spent flying, hanging out in airports, and driving?! *sigh*)  GRANDMA!

And COUSINS!!  Big cousins for LEGO building and small cousins for futbol practice!

Where last-minute grocery shopping is just a quick walk up the hill and down the street to the village market house.......

And Sundays bring new meaning to the term "family day"; galloping through the quiet of the village to church in the morning, and then home for a slow family dinner at 1 p.m.: a huge pot of the best homemade chicken soup, freshly baked bread, and sweets!

Where a trip to the bookstore in the big city leaves little eyes glazed over as all of the books are in your language.......SO many favorites to choose from!  And this year he can READ them!

Where the traffic is sometimes a little sketchy (and smelly!).....

Where you can take a walk off the beaten path...

And see if the grass really is greener on the other side of the fence!

Where the phrase "Go outside and PLAY!"....

Can lead to all sorts of new, um, adventures and discoveries!
Yes, we learned all about poop last year!

Home is.......where everybody knows your name....

and where you hope to grow your heart.

All part of following the path God has planned for our family.  Looking up to the Son and choosing to Bloom Where He Plants Us!  ♥
